GRIZZANA MORANDI - EMILIA ROMAGNA

Grizzana Morandi is a beautiful but small twon in the province of Bologna with ca 3700 inhabitants. The town has for long been a popular summer holiday resort, located in the mountains between the valleys of the rivers Reno and Setta. Views of this town were painted by the famous painter Giorgio Morandi in the early XX century: Morandi was born in Bologna in 1890 and from 1913 the painter spent his summers in Grizzana. Grizzana's landscapes and Morandi's life and paintings are so closely connected that in 1985 the municipality added the painter's name to its own place name. The town also hosts a centre for documentation about Giorgio Morandi (Centro di documentazione Giorgio Morandi) which has an interesting collection of documents on the painter and local history.
